Motivating Young People to Learn to Play and Play to Learn

Motivating youth to become involved in community-based efforts is critically important to Parks & People – and a lot of fun, too! Together with the communities, we work to nurture children and provide them with reading and enrichment activities, as well as sports and recreation activities. Baltimore Baseball League - A sports and academic enhancement program for elementary and middle school children ages 9-14 that encourages students to do well academically while teaching them the skills of baseball. For more information, contact Bernie Shephard.


Baltimore Middle School Lacrosse League - A sports and academic enhancement program for children ages 11-14 that gives young people the opportunity to learn the fundamental skills of lacrosse, as well as teamwork and sportsmanship. For more information, contact Bernie Shephard.

Baltimore Middle School Soccer League - A sports program for children ages 11-14 with a spring and fall league schedule, each consisting of 250 games. For more information, contact Bernie Shephard.


Baltimore Starlings Volleyball Club
- A volleyball program for girls ages 12-18 that allows players to train and compete at USA Volleyball’s Junior Olympics. For more information, contact Bernie Shephard.

KidsGrow - An environmental education program that trains children ages 7-11 after school to become activists in their own neighborhoods. For more information, contact Pearline Tyson.

SuperKids Camp - One of the city's largest summer academic enrichment programs for elementary school aged children that provides Baltimore City Public School children with intensive reading instruction along with engaging and diverse enrichment activities.
