Volunteer: Hamilton Elementary/Middle School Garden Project
Learn about this innovative schoolyard garden, spread compost and mulch, and take part in other volunteer activities. If you have them, please bring shovels, wheelbarrows and five-gallon buckets.

Community Grants Available for Spring 2010
These workshops will provide up-to-date information on our Neighborhood Greening and Partnerships for Parks Grants programs.  Find out what we do and do not fund and get information, resources and suggestions.  Staff contacts will be assigned at this time and will help you with your project ideas.  Refreshments will be provided.  All new applicants are required to send a representative to one of the two workshops.  Returning applicants are encouraged to send a representative who has not attended in the past.  Grant application deadline is Friday, January 29, 2010 at 5pm by mail or in-hand.

Thomas, Interim Director of the Baltimore City Department of Recreation and Parks and members of the several sponsoring organizations listed below at the annual open house at Orianda House, the mansion at the former Crimea Estate of the Winans family in Leakin Park. This years’ theme for this celebration is “One Park, Many Hands.” Come to meet new and old friends and enjoy music, refreshments, and interesting discussions about the Winans family and Leakin Park history by Guy Hager and Ed Orser.

Baltimore City Schoolyard Greening and Garden Workshop for Educators
Come to the beautiful 33-acre Great Kids Farm to learn how to turn your schoolyard into an engaging educational green space, and meet other Baltimore City educators who are doing the same.  Teachers will be introduced to garden-related lesson plans tied to the MSC's, the basics of starting several types of gardens ranging from small containers to raised beds, and helpful tips from experienced garden educators. Free for all Baltimore City Public School teachers and students, suggested donation $5 for others.

CGRN Is Now Accepting 2010 Membership Applications
The Community Greening Resource Network (CGRN) is a project of the Parks & People Foundation and University of MD Extension, with the support of many partners. If you are involved with a garden or green space, or are just interested in gardening, you can become a member of the Community Greening Resource Network and receive access to materials and educational resources, including annual give-away days of plants and other garden supplies, discounts on t-shirts and power tool rentals, free tool banks, workshops, celebrations and more! You’ll also receive the quarterly “See Green” Newsletter, containing a calendar of city-wide events, informative articles, and other fun features.

Trees Available for Public and Private Property Planting It’s not too late to get a tree or three in the ground this year! The TreeBaltimore program of the Baltimore City Department of Recreation & Parks has a limited number of free and reduced price trees available for planting NOW on private and public property in Baltimore City. Most are redbuds, red oaks and red maples in 4-gallon containers.
